Why do so many coin stores do this? I am a Christian, patriotic American so I certainly don't take offense to it, but it seems like they're using it just to sell coins. If so, why don't they do this on every type of ebay store?

Coin collectors usually have an interest in history which often leads to a more patriotic view. As for the religious promotion, that depends on the individuals own idea of what is appropriate.
Never got me to buy more or less.

So is ebay doing it, or is it an option for store owners? With God disappearing these days, it's a good thing for whatever reason anyway imo from my perspective...... but, if I were a store owner, would probably be best to stay neutral from a business point of view, with all the diversity out there.

I agree, like I said I am a fairly devoted person religiously. It's simply that it seems like ebay sellers are trying to profit off of religion, not support it. I wish it would simply be a gesture of favor towards religion, but it seems like it isn't. & to answer your question, it is in the description of some seller's listings, so it is done by the sellers not ebay. I'd do it on my store but they ruined the image of it.

Coin dealers tend to be more WASPE then the rest of the population maybe. In that group which I grew up in but was always a outsider it should be seen as a handshake kinda. It doesn't mean much to them just a hey this is who I am and if you are too you should buy from me.
I see it as harmless though you find it a lot more in used goods and small buisness where I live in general. Thrift stores here it becomes like crazy with them where they try just a little too hard and it gets creepy haha. I remember a putt putt and games center here that started putting up big crosses on the courses cement Angels and fake flowers with Christian music playing from the background to keep bad teens away from what the paper said haha. I always thought he made it look like a graveyard haha.

I hope this is an indication of the type person you're doing business with and not just something they're trying to use as a sales gimmick. Another possibility is that since we've been at war for the past several years, it's a way a saying thanks to the service men/women and wishing God's protection on them. If they're using religion as a sales gimmick, it might work with some people, but if they're not sincere God will take care of it, if they're truly sincere God will bless them for not being ashamed of his name.

I'm reluctant to buy from sellers like that. They may just be ostentatiously patriotic and religious, in which case I don't really care, but I feel that at least some of them are trying to convey that they are "good" and trustworthy people, and I instinctively distrust anybody who starts off by telling me how trustworthy he is.

Beyond the ones doing it to appear trustworthy, many of them also are so insular that they have no clue it could be offensive to the 17-20% of Americans who identify themselves as members of other (or no) religion. And the 70% of the rest of the world.

I agree with the last two replies. Nothing that I can add.

I do own a small business here in Montana and I learned quick not to discuss Politics or religion while conducting business. I will side step the subject if customers bring it up as well.
Some business owners here have some pretty extreme views on politics and choose to discuss them with anyone who walks through their doors. I tend to stay away from these businesses.
