A natural leader who had survived the disfavor of Nero, Titus Flavius Vespasianus restored order following the chaos of 69AD ("The Year of Four Emperors"). Although already 60 years old when he came to power, his reign lasted a decade. The Flavian dynasty he founded, however, ended soon enough with the erratic rule and ultimate assassination of his younger son, Domitian.

This specimen is represented as being from Ephesus. 16mm, 2.65 grams. My impression is that rather than the strike being terribly off-center, the flan was somewhat undersized relative to the dies, a quirk perhaps of that particular mint?

A little corrosion around the edge but still has very nice detail.
Rest in Peace

Since I had previously neglected to identify the above specimen, I tentatively have it as RIC 1416 (RSC 66a).

Here's another, certainly not quite so nice as the first, but I'm sort of a sucker for any reasonably presentable coinage of the Twelve Caesars that turns up on the cheap as this one did. Comes in at about 17.5 mm and 2.88 grams. I believe it to be RIC 29 (RSC 94h, Sear 2285), with Pax depicted on the reverse.

@Lucky Cuss

the Ephesus coin is great. I love the portraits on these issues. I have checked RIC II part 1 and your coin does appear to be RIC 1416.UNfortunately it is missing the control symbol which is supposed to be on the reverse in the exergue It is designated R2, so this is a very scarce coin. Congrats on a great pickup!
