A friend asked me to pick up one of the new Bluebird coins for him...
I'm not much of a painted coin collector, but I have to admit that the RCM did quite a nice job with this one. Vibrant colors on the bird and nicely engraved background.
If this coin is an indicator of what's to come in this four-coin series, I think RCM bird coin aficionados are going to be happy.

That's a beautiful coin, it captures what becomes a flush of vivid blue extremely well! I hadn't noticed the nesting box before, a thoughtful added touch. Nesting boxes are a common sight where I live in Alberta. Conservation groups are very active in building them and nailing them to fence posts in rural areas to help offset the loss of natural habitat. In turn that enables the Bluebird to continue to maintain healthy populations.
I may need to give this coin another look. Seeing a coin in hand is so much better. I didn't think much of the mint image. Both the setting and the bird is nicely done. The bird almost flies off the coin, the color seems to be improving.
Wow that does look great in hand.....growing up in/close to the Rocky Mountains here in Alberta I have seen this imagine in real life many times including the nesting box with the blue bird close by....might have to pick this one up.
