http://www.error-ref.com/brassy-plating/

"brassy plated cents are the product of a zinc contamination within the copper plating bath. The presence of the zinc produces a plating that has a slightly yellowish appearance compared with the normal copper with a red, orange or pinkish appearance. The zinc contamination comes from trapped zinc planchets that are retained and ultimately dissolved in the plating bath. They are often found on 1983 and 1998 Lincoln cents, but could hypothetically be found on any year plated planchets were used."

Thank you John1, stormy, Ocalaflorida and CoinMasters. It's eye catching and reminded me of the gold plated coin we found months
ago. I think I have maybe 3 or 4 of these and
I believe they're all 1983s. I don't have a scale I'll have to pick up one. CoinMasters do they all have a value like that?

Oh I remember seeing that :). That one
was awesome! Some of these I just love!
Any thing odd wether it has value or not,
I like to hold onto to them. That gold plated
one we found was given to one of the kids and he's
convincdd it will make his wishes come true :)
Of course he's only 5 years old. But that's prob
one of the best one I came across that had no real
value, except to a little boys heart.

Thank you CoinMasters for the information, it's so
Interesting leaning about the different coins.

I seen lcs price the brass cents in the $40-60 range they go for $ 12 to $39 on ebay but if you bring one to coin club auction people seam willing to pay higher %65 as its one of those I need to have just one in the collection novelty

You're certainly welcome Mdnyte. I just pass on what others here have passed to me. We all continue to learn together.
Every now and then, one of the gold-plated coins can make a wish come true.

Thank you CoinMasters.

For that 5 year old grandson of mine it did:)
Back about 3 weeks ago his 4 week old sister
got very sick and ended up in ICU on a breathing
Machine. He could only see her through the window
of the ICU unit. He wasn't allowed into the ICU so
I was with him often while mom and dad were at the
hospital. He went to his room and got his gold plated
penny and made a wish to God to bring his baby sister
home. It was a couple of weeks of scary days but she
came home last week and is doing well. My grandson
tells me his wish came true. I'm sure he'll hold that
penny close to his heart for a very long time :). Wishes do
come true ...

Thank you CoinMasters seeing her open her eyes for
the first time in almost two weeks was a very sweet
moment. A little pray and wish tucked within a golden
penny will forever be in our hearts :)

That was probably the best penny this Irish family
ever came across.
