Hi,
I mainly collect circulated coins so...
Is it normal for the mint to issue a coin like this, then post purchase announce it will create a series of them? If so would they usually use the same artist or create the set using different artists?

Our friends in Winnipeg, once the coin went hot raised prices and lowered limits, there were dealers in Europe who had this coin and kept raising the price, at some point it seems to be available at some Canada post outlets. The 4000 mintage seems to help a coin, but it's just my opinion that a holiday themed coin will eventually drift back in price after the buzz is gone. Also almost forget Talisman who also kept raising the price.

No, it's not normal. Considering the Pysanka coin was minted to commemorate the 125th anniversary of Ukrainian settlement in Canada - just my opinion - but it would be rather crass for RCM to create a series just to capitalize on the celebration of an ethnic event. The answer to why this coin sold out so quickly and if a large percentage of the mintage was specially commissioned remains unknown. But would there be a significant interest in the collection of a series of Easter Egg coins? I certainly could be wrong, but Ukrainian or otherwise, I doubt it. Seasonal NCLT has generally not been a big seller.

I can make a small argument the RCM has beaten the lunar coins to smithereens, taking an ethnic theme forever.

Rather than RCM, we might see the Polish Mint issue more Pysanka Easter Eggs. I could be wrong but I think it would be rather odd for RCM to mint any more than the one Ukranian commemorative. But I'd expect RCM will move on to acknowledge other ethic groups through similar celebrations of anniversaries of immigration to Canada, considering the Pysanka appears to have proven that ethnic themed coins are a good hit. The possibilities are numerous....

Last year the RCM had the Diwali coin for South Asians. Did not do that well, still available for sale.

Do you guys think that many of those who bought the psanka coin did so because of the money back guarantee and the coin might come back available at the mint nearing the end of that 1 year guarantee date?

Quote: Did not do that well, still available for sale. Without any offence , but these nations have different mentality. South Asian community see here only amount of gramms of precious metal, so it heavily overpriced. For the Europe - this is collectible item. Why majority of the Mints located in Europe, but the South Asia is famous by the markets?

7 months after RCM released Pysanka Silver Coin ( issue price CAD$115 ), newest ebay sold prices reached $300 benchmark. Not CAD$300 but USD$300 ( equivalent to CAD$390 ). Amazing coin.

This very interesting. Comes to mind the thought, that people will be ready to pay for only non-traditional "coins". (with rare exception, when the mintage is very low and the coin touches the old-school collectors interest. Example is 1935-2015 Silver Dollar)

I kinda think the Faberge egg had a bit to do with the popularity of this Payanka egg, I mean the first thing I thought of was a Faberge egg when I saw the coin for the first time, although I know its a Ukrainian thing.

to CCF, coinsfromworld! How the stuff goes in Poland? What do people collect there? Do you aware, that RCM randomly inserts certificate, and low certificate number can definitively increase resell value, but doesn't say a thing about quality of the coin.

Quote: If at first you don't succeed ... redesign and raise the price Strategic and marketing mistake. People from this region (in majority) do not care at all in numismatic stuff. For them important pm content of the coin. Diwali ornament on the 1oz silver coin cost CAD 100? They will just laugh.
