So what is the second photo (choco brown) that you keep posting. BTW, the OA2 Obverse is fairly scarce ... only 5.3% of the 1858's struck. It was married to Rev RA3 (2% of all struck), which is filled with D/C's all over or Rev RB11 which has a few D/C's at leaf 5, 14 and later on at 6, 7, & 10.

Both of these Reverses are fairly scarce .. Turner Reverse RB11 used on 3.3% of the 1858 struck, or thereabouts.

I didn't know that there was an OB11 for just an 1858. There is an OB11 for a 1859/8 and it is 18%. Was the OB11 you were wondering about a new one that Rob found? I don't have those.

Spix: You have me confused with showing so many coins, all of which are not the same, especially when Gidjit's get in there as well. The "dots" are rust pits in the die and they very well may be markers for that Obverse die. The last coin on the first page and at least one on the 2nd page don't have the pits, so not the same die. Every Obverse die may have been married to 2 or more reverse dies, so the reverses may not asll be the same. According to Turner's books, there were on 2 Reverse dies married to that Obverse.

The T in Gratia is doubled on one of the Obverses, so they can't all be from the same die either. Die cracks start at any time during the striking cycle and many times grow, spread, or become wider. Die cracks do not make good markers because some of the coins may have been struck before the cracks appeared. When we start to talk about the ID of a specific coin, we need to make one thread to talk about it. Throwing in 4-5 different coins and talking about the same thing (supposedly) just brings in confusion.
