So as many of you know, I work in a pharmacy, and I'm likely the only employee there who doesn't use the counterfeit detector pen. My question for you is: What would happen if someone spent a small portrait bill from 1950 or earlier and it came up as fake on the pen test?

I really hope that if that happened, the cashier wouldn't believe the pen's false result and subsequently call the cops, I actually read an article of a man who was arrested for passing counterfeit money, until secret service took it to a bank to verify its authenticity and it was determined "real but very old." Goes to show you that people are getting arrested for the dumbest things, even when they didn't do anything wrong.
Rest in Peace

No need to worry. It won't be that many more years before dollars and cents are used so infrequently that anyone still using those antiquated forms of payment will be looked upon with pity.

Boy I'm no expert, but if does seem difficult to believe that a worn older note would not pass the pen test. I mean, even if this happened, how would you prove "criminal intent" on passing a dilapated old note?

Older notes don't pass the pen test because the paper composition was different and the older notes will show as counterfeit if a pen is used.

One of a couple things could happen:

1. It could be accepted.

2. It could be rejected without anything else happening.

3. It could be rejected and the store call the police.Q
