This post is based on levity and not looking for a real answer. As this is the best coin found today among maybe 200 or so. I need a break.

All are welcome to be creative in offering the reason of the damage.
I am going with a four on four crime..

In 1944 the Japanese intended to invade the California coast. The coast guard, alerted to this possibility, set up a series of high energy sensing devices along the coast to alert the gun crews if those waters were infiltrated.

The only major draw back to that alarm system was the fact that the entire array was charged by a single electrical power unit.

On a warm night in July the sensors had just indicated a possible invasion force approaching when the entire system failed. The source of the failure was quickly located as a single low voltage breaker switch.

A quick thinking lieutenant saw the problem and inserted this copper cent into the fuse panel to temporarily repair the problem.

This is that cent which enabled our coast gunners to repel the attempted attack and potentially save our nation from doom.
