Haven't seen anything like this yet, however, I'm still pretty new at this.

The "Y" in Liberty looks funny. It doesn't look like PMD to me. If you look close, you can see that it hardly even looks like it used to be a "Y".

Opinions appreciated

Looks like the coin was altered after it was struck. Nothing in the striking process could have done that to your coin. So it is PSD.

It's a hit from top of the Y pushing downward. PMD .

Some kind of contact mark after strike. The damage makes it look like a radar dish. Thanks, Doug.

interesting...it does not appear to have any physical marks on the flat near the top of the "Y" , yet the "Y" is partially filled in...

neither leg of the "Y" is straight...they are both curved...

where the metal come from that filled the "Y" in?

The physical marks have been long gone since it spent 70 years in circulation.

I don't understand, the "Y" was struck normally then hit. This pushed the existing metal down then circulation took over in smoothing the devices
