Hello to all, I am new here and have a question and would appreciate any answers you can give. I have percussed A Kennedy half dollar in a hard case labeled '1964 Silver Proof 50C GSA PR 69 Cameo Accented Hair' I can not seem to find much about this on line and was wondering where to look and its value?
Again thanks for your time.

We need to see photos of the coin and the full slab, I'm not aware that the US General Services Administration (GSA) did Kennedy halfs, so I suspect it is the basement TPG (Third Party Grading) company GSA. Unfortunately that GSA is not reputable.

(Basement is a nice way of saying garbage - there are only a handful of companies considered reputable: PCGS & NGC, then ANACS, ICG and SEGS - although there are plenty of people who don't like those last three)

Welcome aboard.

Pictures are always useful in determining ballpark values.

GSA is usually a hard packed coin straight from the government. I am no expert on Kennedy halves, but I wasn't aware that they did this with them.

Guessing some basement slabber has named his slabbing company GSA to piggyback off the GSA Morgan dollars.

Picture would help though.

Someone will pop in here with much more Kennedy knowledge than me though and set us both straight.

Assuming it is a basement slabbed (self slabbed) coin, it is likely not a PR69 and in the range of $15 - $50 retail depending on the grade and if it actually is the accented hair or not.

A coin dealer won't pay retail so you would receive something less than that.

If it really is PR69 that coin is quite valuable though, so pictures would help us determine the value.

ok thanks Your right about the Real GSA not packaging halves I have continued my searching and found that this GSA stands for Genuine Specialist Authentication Company.
So I am beginning to think I was taken. The coin look real good but now I am not sure about its real grade and price. I am working on getting a picture.

Pretending the slab your coin is in doesn't even exist and we are talking about the value of the coin itself.

ebay closed prices show some impaired (visible damage or cleaning) Proofs that have sold for as little as $8-$12.

A large number of them that are raw (not encapsulated or graded by a TPG) sold in the $25-$35 range.

In a PCGS PF65 Accented Hair, sold for almost $60.00.

Those in PCGS PF66 Accented Hair typically sell in the $100 range.

So it really depends on the coin and how nice it is.

It's hard to tell from the photos, but that should at least give you an idea on likely ranges.

What to check for on the accented hair?

1. My standing rule is to buy the coin and not the plastic.
2. Slabs are sometimes faked as well. If there are reference numbers on the slab, check them online to see if they are a match.
3. Some coin will grade better or worse than what the slab says. So check my first rule first.
