Just stopped off at a bank (they are a nationwide bank but I will not mention their name) I've been a customer at for over 22 yrs. One of the tellers (who has promised to hold loose pre-1968 half and dollar coins for me) informed me that the bank will no longer sell rolled coins unless you have a business acct. They won't take any CRC's either, too many businesses complained about being shorted with CRC. On the sly I will still be able to get some coins if the bank mgr isn't watching my teller but this is not good. I don't do "that" much CRH, never picked up more than 25 rolls at a time and only visit 4 banks for buy and dump. I'm going to have to open an acct with TD so I can dump with them since they have coin machines but may find they'll allow me to buy rolls also. Will also look for a local Credit Union Bank and get an acct with them hoping that they are less likely to serve businesses with coin orders (maybe yes, maybe no). I have an acct with all the banks I currently CRH with but loosing even one of them is not good. Anyone else have success in getting loose change from local stores? Two grocery stores I frequent have supplied me with Kennedy halfs numerous times but they are hard to come by. One bank that I don't have an acct at, in a retirement community near me, supplied me with $170 in Ike's and Kennedy's 2 months ago (all '71 and newer). Customer was moving and dumped all his coins at the bank. Someday I'll look more closely at them, so far I've only found one machine damaged Ike, no DDO, DDR, etc... Need to learn more about these coins before I dump them but finding a bank to take all of them may be a problem. With so many people using plastic and large bills these days, banks must see coins as a pia, even if you're a business. Twenty years ago while working in a grocery store, we hated to see plastic because the charges we had to pay to use it ate into our profits - cash welcomed!

Bummer! Banks are constantly looking for ways to cut costs. The less coins they hand out= less they have to order= less they have to pay the armored curriers.

It's an unfortunate event with many banks. Especially when coins today are little more than sales tax tokens.

CWR are a double edge sword in my eyes. I find interesting things often, but at the same time I pulled over $75 worth of Canadian coins out of those rolls last year. The Canadian is a bummer as I can't use it in the restaurant and I can't return it to the bank. In the end I lose. I don't go through the volume larger business do, so I can see why they would not want CWRs.

I know banks have problems with us, no doubt but what about Brinks, Loomis , etc? I purchased a box of dollar coins to work on a presidential set received 32 Canadian $1. What a rip off....luckily my bank lets me bag the coins and send them to Brinks, I have to write my acct # on the bag. The bank has told me if the amount is not correct Brinks will let them know and they will make the correction to my account. Over 1 year no adjustments to my account yet and all bags contain the same junk I get.
If you have any account with a bank they should not decline a customer.

This isn't PNC, is it? My PNC bank has always given me customer wrapped coins, so I hope they are not the ones you are referring too.

This is the way of things. Enjoy CRH while you can because it will end eventually.

Thanks for the replies. I did manage to get a couple of CW rolls at that bank the day they gave me the bad news. The first nickel that popped out of the nickel roll was a 1948 also got 8, 1950 and 1960 nickels. The penny roll had a bunch of 1960-80 pennies. Since then, no luck at any bank I shopped at.
Have thought of many ways to acquire coins in small amts but the banks are still the best way to get rolled coins. I did find a local CU with 3 branches w/i 5 miles of my home, with account requirement strings attached but I can "tie up the loose ends" of those strings to meet the requirements. Question is, will they allow me to buy rolled coins?
Question, when some of you order bricks, etc... of coins, do you usually get just newer coins? Last time I settled for machine rolled coins the bank had on hand, I got nothing but 2015's. The last time I scored 20 rolls of CW pennies, I got a bunch of wheats and 1960-99 pennies, nothing newer. Obviously someone had culled through the rolls as the 60's, 70's etc... were all rolled together but they left plenty of error coins in the rolls.
As to PNC bank. Haven't tried them yet, seems like there's one on every corner in my town. WF allowed me to get coins w/o an acct. A bunch of small community banks, but have never tried using them, that will "change" (pun intended).

A TD bank I visited had no porblems with my buying coins, but I never buy bricks, just a few rolls now and then. Has a coin machine and the lobby is opened till 8PM TH & FR, till 3 on SAT. But only bank rolled coins are available. A local CU with several branches nearby also had a coin machine, great % rates and no issues with me buying rolls, so I joined. Found three clashed Roosevelts in four dime rolls. Their coin machine gave me a Canadian quarter someone else left behind (house money ;) So I seem to have found two banks that will welcome CR hunters to make up for the one that no longer will.

Wait what do you mean you find a bank in a retirement community, you mean like within the community itself? They have those? Can I ask which bank your talking about?
