Yes it is the same. If you want to lock that thread now that would be ok. While I was at it I thought I add pictures of it to the pocket piece thread to track progress over time. Would it be better if this one is erased and just change the title of the initial thread?

No, this is okay since it focuses on grading, the other on it being a pocket piece. As I said in that thread, I just wanted to be sure it was the same as the one we talked about last week (since you have your own photos now). I try to not assume too much!

By the way, I like the slot machine theory, based on some Kennedy half dollar casino finds posted in the past.

I also purchased it from a dealer that lives in eastern California off of ebay. So it's not that far from Las Vegas.

I'm on board with the slot machine theory. I've come across many Kennedy halves in the same condition from bank rolls. Being fairly close to Shreveport LA I made the same conclusion. Great pocket piece! you'll have that Ike looking like the "Thing" before long.

I think the reason it looked so weird in the ebay photos was the guy used a odd angle of really bright artificial light. It helped to see all the minor flaws but it also mad if look like the design had uneven wear on the reverse of the eagle. In person the scratches appear to be much less severe even in bright sunlight or in decent living room lighting.

Hopefully a year or two in the pocket will even it out even more.

I vote pocket piece, not from a slot machine. Slot machine coins usually have no reeding left at this point.

Quote: Hopefully a year or two in the pocket will even it out even more. Quote: Slot machine coins usually have no reeding left at this point. The reeding does not disappear overnight. It takes time and its final state depends when it was retired from the casino. I have seen Kennedy half dollars posted with varying states of reeding. However, I think they are in the Monster Thread, so good luck finding them!
