1925 Buffalo nickel. Are these a weak strike?

Hey Matty,
I'd call this coin a strong VF-30 and I could see some folks going up to EF-40. The strike actually looks pretty solid. Liberty is fully formed, not blending into the rim. The bison's horn is full, there is good detail on the head and hump, and the split at the tip of the tail shows clearly.

The Denver and San Francisco coins from the 1920's are often very weak, but Philadelphia coins like this one generally have a decent strike.

I would have to go with XF40 as the horn is full and the tail is split at the tip, although the hair knot and date does show some weakness. I always found Buffalo nickels to be quite the grading challenge and recommend lots of grading experience prior to buying the semi-key and key dates.

Thanks for the help Cupro' - they do look quite a challenge to me also!
I now have a bag full of the 35 and 36 dates which are very challenging to grade.. :(

Here's a terrific example of strike weakness on a 1925-D Buffalo nickel. This coin is currently for sale by Heritage in their Recently Closed Auctions section. Asking price is $632 plus buyers fee and shipping . I'm just posting the reverse, which has the detail of maybe a Fine-12 coin. The obverse is stronger but not by much. Sorry for the low-res image quality; if anyone is interested you can see the sharper original photos on the Heritage website.
