I saw a blurb in the latest Numismatic News that someone asked who the most famous counterfeiter was. Richard Giedroyc answered that in his opinion it was Emanuel Ninger in the late 1800's. It seems he drew his own notes using the same paper that was sold to the US Government. In looking at the Wikipedia article on him it says he traced the spurious notes. I imagine that time has faded any surviving notes, but would you not want to see one? I cannot imagine anyone that skilled, of course, I flunked paint-by-the-numbers class.
