So I was trying to "win" another Ike on GC last night. Fourteen seconds left and I place my bid. The bid goes through in what I feel is plenty of time. Nope. I receive the dreaded message that the auction has ended. When I saw the winning bid price my heart sunk. I feel for the seller. Ouch for me and him/her.

This coin has a TrueView image as well, so some money was spent on this specimen. My only consolation is that I feel the coin is overgraded. I'm thinking MS64 tops. There's a nasty gash on Ike's head that is really distracting. Still, I wonder if my bid had gone through would I have maybe won it for the next bid increment ($2)? With the $5 buyer fee plus shipping, I think it's still an awesome winner for the price. Oh, the agony.

Wow. A dollar! I've never seen such a low GC selling price. Win some, lose some but at least it wasn't a big boy coin. Glass half full darth

14 seconds should have been enough time for your bid to go through and still leave enough time for someone to counter. No telling what the reserve was on the $1 winning bid though.

@Tryna- shipping is actually $3. So, for $9 this would be worth it all day long even at MS64, especially with the toning. You'll never see this happen on eBay- a PCGS MS65 Ike for a face value winning bid. It's crazy. I guess everyone was busy watching the Walking Dead last night.

Yeah, 14 seconds that's ridiculous. When I bid with 3 seconds left on ebay, I still worry if someone will sneak a last second bid in. Hopefully that was just an anomally.

That is most unfortunate. It was a decent looking coin.

I was speaking with Ian (owner of GC) a few weeks ago on this now that I remember and he said the what he recommends is to put your top-top max bid in 30 seconds before ending. I took it as dealer talk, his way of saying bid high so someone else can keep bidding if they want it but it looks like his 30 seconds advice is grounded more in practicality. Or has something to do with his system in terms of glitches or whatnot. Did you try calling him darth just to get his opinion on what happened?

No, but I think I know what did happen. It may, in fact, be a system glitch. I have seen a weird thing happen where the countdown timer is at, say, 40 seconds, and then it races down to 12 seconds in about 2 seconds. However, I've also seen this happen on ebay. It's happened on my desktop and on my iPhone/iPad. Heck, maybe it's just my devices.

Or your router

I'd plug a CAT-5 in your laptop/desktop and do your bidding from it from now on and see if it helps. Also, unplug your router for 5 minutes. They can get a static charge that messes with their functionality. Unplugging dissipates any static charge that may be there

The one very positive realization is that when GC says there is no reserve, there really is no reserve.

I've gotten used to doing a 30 second snipe since a few of my bids didn't get in if I tried to snipe with less than 15 seconds.
