Took three different pics. First one through a milk jug with (2) Janslos. Second one free with (2) janslos. The last one axially. For Pete's sake, can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong in not being able to properly pic these types of coins? Am I relegated to axial on super shiny coins? I'm getting so frustrated to the point of quitting the picturing process.

Yeah... I'd suggest to light up the room take off flash and try taking a pic on a flat table with dark colars.

With axial, lighting is at 90-deg to the coin. Your 2-Jansjo shot seems to be around 45-deg. Best angle for business strike coins is in the 70-80deg range, so you just need to bring your Jansjos up a bit higher angle.

That still looks like a mess... Are these scans or is it just scratched?

Agreed. These three (all circulated) were taken a few minutes ago in natural light upstairs, all the same position. The difference is obvious from OP. However, still, the super shiny one appears black and scratches are more prominent. The older one was a bit flat already, but at least you can see detail. Not like the first pics under CFL lights. I've concluded it's a combination of the coin surface and lighting that's giving me fits. I just need to experiment more with diffusing and positioning to get it right. Or, just take pics of these coins in natural light. I'm walking away from it for a few days.....to frustrated at this point.
