I think your correct about the 2011 test coin it wasn't meant for circulation. On the other hand the 2010 is in the charlton cat 2020 page 228

The 2010 no water line is in the PL sets of 2010. Not circulation.

Quote: Has anyone ever found one of the glow in the dark 2017 toonies in rolls / change? Yes. Both. From change, but only within a couple of weeks from release. Then they were gone.

Castor Sous - in 2017 didn't they also have the Vimy toonie in circulation? So would that be 3 circulation varieties that year (aurora borealis no glow, aurora borealis glow, vimy)?

So, since 2012 each and every toonie has 2 variations. Canada written in the small edge (with the saturations) is either written with the queen facing up or the other side facing up.
I have yet to read about this in any book or come across it in and forums! I label all mine type A or type B. I don't remember how I noticed but it's been fun trying to find!! But has doubled the hardness on the rarer coins to find!

In 2012 the RCM again in their wisdom started to produce the regular size loonie and toonie but only a small amount was released to a couple of the banking centers the rest was sitting in their warehouse and eventually was recycled, plus Ontarios supply was lost in the famous Trans Canada highway crash. The RCM decided to make the 2012 security loonies and toonies with ply steel and edge lettering on the toonies to battle counterfeits, also these coins are now slightly smaller and weigh less, the new toonies edge lettering is random, there is no upside down lettering

Yes there is. Look at the sides of your toonies.

After the new security toonies are struck, then the edge lettering is applied by a random process that is why some collectors believe they found upside down lettering. The bulk bins are taken to another machine and the lettering is applied with a 50 50 chance the coin is heads up, or reverse up that is why some newer toonies the edge or rim of the lettering is pushed inwards.
