in 1949 the "19" was fixed but the "4" and "9" vary in placing. it was also the final year of the Flatback "9".

The most popular variety is the Hoof-Over "9"
Link to an excellent sample posted by DEVLEC, informative thread (and funny as well!)

Some other varieties:
Wide or Narrow date
Doubling of "4" and doubling or tripling of "9" (the same link)
Even or high "4"

1. Round 9, narrow date, even 4 (horizontally at top)

2. Wide date, die chip in "4".....photo is not great, in a ICCS holder, minor doubling of the "9".

3. Hoof-over 9, the lower 4, 9/9

Thanks SilverDon. Yes that's what I thought.....P451u.

Any 1947s? Within the next couple days I hope to sort through my #1 favourite variety, I saved for the final year of enlightening myself (and hopefully others) regarding the King George VI series of 50c.
