I have noticed a lot of pics where the serial numbers are blurred out or removed. I've seen it at heritage, archives, old auctions and other places too. I'm confused why this is done. I've heard it's for census protection, but that doesn't make sense to me. Could someone explain this practice to me?

With the certification number in plain view...someone could very easily enter the coin as if they owned it in a registry set.
Once that is done it is a real booger bear to get your own coin out of their set.

Among other reason. Just a safety precaution

I believe this is about serial numbers on notes, not cert numbers.

As someone that has spent a lot of time making serial number charts and trying to obtain a CONFIRMED Census of overprint errors on both Natick & Web Press Notes, I see no reason for a blurred serial number...

Anyone that read my census thread, know I had to delete 3 serial numbers from a published Natick census as the serial numbers were off by 20,000 sheets in a 40,000 sheet run...

I also believe I'm the only one to actually make COPE Plate Position serial number charts of confirmed errors, required for a accurate census..

See I was trying to do the same thing, only with non error Natick and Gilbert experimentals census, although u see this issue with other notes too. I come across threads or previous auctions with this problem. It makes it ridiculously hard to keep things accurate.

I recently came across a Gilbert Employees Blog I posted on over a year ago, and seen a post on where Gilbert employees confirm The Gilbert Paper Company also produced Currency Stock for Foreign Countries...

I need to make another post on the site before posting here, or sending you the link via email...

Not sure what Gilbert serial numbers you have, but I can start documenting non error serials for your census...

Thanks I'd appreciate it. I'm about to post my current census, at least the S/Ns, just so it's on the public record. Hopefully keeps others from having to search as hard.
