Hi everyone, a friend found this coin in an old cellar and was wondering if I could help him figure out if its worth anything. From the research I've done, it seems like there's numerous fakes/copies out there so I wouldn't be surprised if its not worth anything. Posting a couple pictures and hopefully someone here can help me out I do apologize if this is not the right place to post this question, If so can someone direct me in the right place to get some help Much Appreciated.

Since it is a fake, it isn't worth anything.

I can see "copy" on the obverse, near the beak of the eagle. Unfortunately no value or very minimal value (couple of bucks at most).

Now to go crush his dreams. Thanks for the help :)
EDIT: I might be blind, but I don't see where it says copy. Can you highlight it for me so I can show him so he doesn't think I'm lying please? Thanks

I do not see a COPY stamp, but the hole makes me suspect it's a very very cheap jeweler's copy used for necklaces, pendants, etc.

It is very hard to see with these pictures but I think I see a "C" and "O" very clearly and part of the "P" in the design. From what I've seen some of these replica producers are actually very clever in obscuring the word copy into the design. What do you all think. Am I seeing things?

I can sort of see it now that you highlighted it.

here's another picture without the flash. On the actual coin, it's just 2 bubbles like on the other side of the eagles head. To me personally, it doesn't look like a "C" "O". I can confirm in a couple days when I see him again and actually have the coin in hand. The thing that made me think it was a fake was the fact that the coin did not have much weight to it, but I;m not sure how much it should weigh in the first place.

Looks like you got yourself a copy of a gold Brasher Doubloon. Beautiful design, too bad it's not worth much, but still a pretty neat piece!

That's one of the oldest tricks in the detecting business to bury something like that for the next guy to come along and think they struck it rich!

Whether it says copy or not, it is one and not a very good one. These used to be common at souvenir stands in historic sites and museums. Many of these were made before the laws requiring copies to be marked were enacted.

It is a modern replica fake, plain and simple.
