A few years ago, I posted a breakdown of the RCM's NCLT commemorative silver dollars (36 mm size) that listed the number of different designs that have been issued as well as the total number of releases once all versions (i.e., proof, brilliant uncirculated, specimen, enameled, etc.) are included. You can see the original tally and ensuing dialogue here: https://goccf.com/t/112883 and my January 2014 update here: https://goccf.com/t/168494

I thought that with the annual standard issues now released for 2016, and lucy13's list of SDs since 2000 spurring some new discussion, I would post an update.

To make things a bit easier to read, I've inserted a spreadsheet table that I've created.

The table isn't meant to be a descriptive list of all the commemorative SDs (there are multiple sources for such a list), but rather a tool to conduct a numerical cross-check of one's collection.

In January 2014, I listed 64 design types and 114 total coins across all versions. Since then, five new designs have been used to create eight new SDs. This brings the totals to 69 distinct design types and 122 total SDs.

Fortunately, a collector just starting out on forming a complete SD set (36mm size), can find most of the 122 SDs available for issue price or below; only a handful or so command noticeable premiums. It's definitely a fun set to put together, however you chose to do it.

Following is the updated breakdown:

A very useful reference for sure, thanks for sharing! 122? Wow!

I know I'm missing quite a few, haven't decided if I really want to know exactly how many but this will be helpful when the time comes, after my coin budget has recovered from this past winter. (Seems I've already spent well into the fall of 2016, great buying prices though....hard to resist.)
