I got suckered in by this one... in an online auction (think estate sale guys, not ebay).

So, what do you guys think a set of 8 fakies is worth.
Maybe some coin dealer would like it as a sample kit!?

Thx,

Glenn in AZ

(nice 1st post, eh?)

I haven't taken possession yet, auction closed today, pickup tomorrow. Maybe they will let me wiggle out if if claim they are fake.

Last week they had a 1916-D dime that I was watching, slabbed NCG. It went $5xx for a G-4 grade. Maybe real, but who knows.

I would bet that most dealers already own some of these same coins. They typically come in with junk lots when coins are purchased by the pound.

These coins sell at wholesale level for $1 each. In bulk for 10 cents each. They of course are really worthless even as scrap metal.

Whether or not you can return them will likely depend on auction policy and how they were described. If they described them as silver you have a good chance of getting your money bank unless there is a zero return policy.

Two word description along with the photo already posted:
"Commemorative Coins"

As vague as could be.

Commemorative Coins is precisely how the Chinese refer to these coins. There must have been some original paperwork with the coins for the estate sale to include those words.

Either that or the entire on-line auction was a scam.

They took them back without batting an eyelash and returned them to the estate that they came from. Kudos to the auction guys.
