Wow...Nice job! (Only suggestion I would make is to flip the sample and the legend at the top, so that people like me will read the legend first instead of guessing what the picture is.) Thanks for compiling all that into one place, it's hard to get comprehensive info on more modern Mexican coins. Definitely bookmarking!

Thanks you.

I have seen references to a "wide date" 1983, but have never been able to find a photo different than the one shown for 1983.

Nice website, as previously noted it's good to have more resources on Mexican coins.

This is a collection I put together about 10 years ago. I think I will update the photos in the next few weeks, I think I can currently produce better photos.

Does anyone know why there were two distinct varieties in some years? In particular, the years with "open 8" varieties - the date is far from all the differences in the dies for those years.

I have been unable to find any discussions on the cause / purpose of these varieties.

Awesome thanks for putting that information together

Very clear and concisely organized...

started collecting un peso's (1900 to present) and can't seem to find too much information or books on varieties.

I now got some fun things to look for next time I go through the world coin buckets..

I been searching for other varieties besides the ones you mentioned on the internet.

I found a few more modern un pesos mentioned on another forum.

I do not own them the other 3 yet so can put up photos and the website with photos cant add link to other forum.

but if you search in google "mexican-peso-varieties-of-the-1970s-and-1980s." they show up

this is a text summary of the other 3

1972 Type 1 with open Collar and Gap between Ear and Hair Line

1972 Type 2 with closed Collar and no Gap between Ear and Hair Line

also a

1981 Type 3 with weak eye, open Collar and small gap between Ear and Hair Line

I am working on the set based on the ones you show on that website I found a couple so far I will post picture once I get some nicer ones.

On that other forum, they reference my work, but my web page content provider (comcast) ceased giving web space for personal pages. So the link there does not work.

I am unaware of the 1972 types 1 and 2 and wonder if they are really the result of die polishing.
