Sometimes I like to browse ebay and see if I can get any deals on coins with light residue, that might easily come off with a bit of acetone. Don't know if this one would leave a stain, looks like a weird kind of residue, almost like a sap, so maybe it didn't destroy the luster. Wonder what it'd grade and be worth without it?

Worth a shot, if it fails, you still have an UNC Details coin, which is what you started with, anyway.

The price is insanely, stupidly high.

Seller noted:

"suggestion by PCGS to use their Restoration Service"

So based on that I suspect acetone would work .....

You may locally apply to area using cotton ball soaked to lay on contamination and dab - or apply a drop or two on area and use cotton ball to contain ..... Slow and easy may work!

Acetone, due to its nature. will slowly dissolve accumulated debris on coins, and also has the ability to dissolve lacquers (which this appears to be).
So yes, acetone is one possibility.

I agree that acetone has a high probability of doing the job.
BUT
You'll obviously have to crack it out.
AND
If acetone DOESN'T work AND you still want the UNC-Genuine designation you'll have to pay for the reslabbing.

The question to ask is the risk worth the potential reward? Maybe see if the seller will take less, send a message and see. No harm in trying

Acetone is fine. Try soap and water first.

I would not take the risk on something with this high of a price tag.
Rest in Peace

With all due respect. Why the soap and water first?
