These are very nice coins for two different reasons, and if you are lucky enough, can be found in high grades, because they saw little or no circulation at the time of their issue:

the 50 Centimes is a victim of Greshams Law,
the 1Ct is a victim of Japanese invasion.

Two of my most favorite coin designs ever (indeed both had at some point been considered by me as the single most beautiful coin design ever).
My example of the 1 cent is also pretty much uncirculated. Wasn't that date made after the Japanese had invaded already? (My example of the 50 centimes is more circulated but also older.)

And yes, great toning!

If the coin was struck after the Japanese invasion of the Dutch East Indies, the coin would not have entered into circulation. The uncirculated condition is evidence of that. It is probable that this coin has never been IN Indonesia.
According to Krause, one hundred million of them were struck at the Philadelphia Mint.
I guess that almost all of them have been melted.

30 years ago, they were quite common in dealer's junk boxes in Australia, never seen these days.
