Nice setup, DavidUK. Looks great (and efficient)!  I really do like the flexibility your solution (and those like it) affords you. I will very likely do something similar for my "loose" coins. I have the flips, just need the album. |

I get all my Albums free. The reason is I go to coin shows and spend time talking to dealers. They all basically say the same thing. They buy Albums or Folders full of coins and put all the coins in flips. Then they just throw out all the Folders and Albums regardless of which ones they are. I ask if they wouldn't mind bringing me some or all rather than throwing them out. Several dealers have done this over the years and I know have well over 100 Albums. Extras or unwanted I either give to nearby schools or donate to Goodwill or the Salvation Army. I find it interesting that after such a donation to one of their stores and go back there in a few days, all of those are now gone. At the schools they vanish fast to kids that want them. Sometimes I just keep the slides as extras from some of the Albums too. It is amazing what you can do with a lot of Albums and Folders.
The one bad thing is if you have an Album, you just have to start putting coins in it and that is where the cost really gets up there.

Have you ever received any rare type albums that way? That is pretty cool building up the relationships and getting free albums! :D

My philosophy with ready-made albums is that I don't like people telling me how to collect. If you want to put two of the same coin side by side you can't. If a new variety gets discovered you have to buy a new album. Some albums you have to touch the coin's face to put it in the hole. Coins can pop out from wear. And you'll have holes laughing at you for years.
I also go the 2x2 route (nice white space to write on), flat clinch staples (needle-nose pliers do well), in D-Ring binders so that the pages stack nicely on top of each other and not in a funny arc that simply makes the pages hard to turn and ruins your O-rings.

It's all a matter of personal choice. I myself use Albums and 2x2's for duplicates. I did do away using binders and I use single and double roll 2x2 boxes. Albums make it so much easier to look at your collections.

As a retired coin dealer, I retained a large inventory of supplies. I do not know what to do with them. My shop closed in 1999, and all the supplies have been in storage ever since. I live in northern NH. If anyone wants this stuff, email me. Some of the supplies include: Dansco albums and many pages, Whitman blue folders, coin books, magnifiers, coin tubes, etc. There is too much to inventory. I can fill up your pickup truck or van for little money. I will not sell single albums or pages. I gotta move this stuff out. I would hate to trash it.

NH collector, you would need the required amount of posts, but once you do putting that stuff up for sale on the forum would be an awesome thing!
