Hello All. Wanted to know if the "S" on a 1932 quarter is always crisp and clear or really mushy like mine. This one may have taken a hit on the MM, but I have never seen that before. Any thoughts/comments appreciated.

Just did some more reading. I wonder if the 32-S can exhibit a "smeared" mintmark?

I'm no expert but I think it can.

Here's an MS-64 example that looks smeared to me: http://coins.ha.com/itm/washington-...tion-071515#

The "s" is petty tiny....seems as though very details are the first to deteriorate as the number of strikes increases...

The whole coin seems to lack sharpness as well...

Yes, thank you. Had a 32-D and 32-S when I was a kid in the 60s and of course sold them off years ago. Trying now to re-acquire a few specific coins that I had.
