Hello, as the title states, I have a 1964-D dime, but I noticed what looked to be extra material on Roosevelt's chin. My magnification is not high enough, so I was wondering what you guy/gals think from my phone pictures. I cant tell if it is a circle blob, or a misplaced D on the front side of the coin, as one side of the mark looks straight. And sorry for the red color from my phone.

Any thoughts are welcome. Thanks

Nice well placed die chip!

I've found one exactly like that a few years ago, and just recently found this this one that has a nice sized chip in the motto.

They do have a small collectors base that are willing to pay a premium on them . Case in point, I sold my first one on ebay just to see if it would generate any interest. And got a very serious bid 20 mins after I listed it.

Location is key!
Like the chip on yours, it is clearly visible on his cheek therefore giving it the appearance of an unsightly mole.

Same with die cracks. For example, die cracks on penny's usually won't command a premium UNLESS you find a nice example with multiple cracks(shattered die) to Lincoln 's head. These have been labeled "cracked skulls" as of a result of the way in which he was assassinated.
I had a very nice example of one of them as well and it sold quickly for a modest premium too!

Most times if you think it's unusual and interesting, someone else will too, and be willing pay a premium for the coin. So I keep anything that is unusual, especially if it easily catches my eye.

Nice find!

Thanks JDRMCB,

Just curious, how much do you think this is worth? Did you have your other coin that you sold graded and do you think I should send this in to graded? Sorry for all the questions. I am just trying to find out more about this type of coin. Thanks

I wouldn't think there would be a premium for this. It is pretty minor. Something interesting to find, but probably only worth it says on the reverse of the coin.

I'll make you a deal Coop, since your such a nice guy, go and gather up every 1964 dime you own and I will pay you double what it says on the reverse of the coin! I'll take all you've got, sight unseen, even AF1-AG3 culls! Let me know how many you have and I'll PM you with my PayPal info so you can send me an invoice.

Kraut- I sold mine raw on the bay for 150X Face. (FYI: What it says on the back of the coin + $14.90.)

Well it is worth silver weight. (I missed that) But no premium as a variety/error.
