Is there a site that has photos of all the Shield nickel varieties? Would this be called a repunched date? I also see a doubling on one of the arrows. The reverse has the parts of some of the letters in UNITED STATES OF AMERICA that are missing. thanks, Ed

Ok, thanks, MD it is.

I've seen a couple of sites with some crazy long lists of the Shield nickel varieties, but none with photos of all of them. Does anyone know about the full version of the Shield nickel Viewer software? Does it have all varieties? Is there a free site somewhere, or a book I can buy that has pics of all varieties. How about the Cherrypickers book? I seem to be more interested in Shield nickels than any other series, but if I want to see any varieties other than the common/popular ones, it gets a bit tough. tHanks, Ed

The only book I know of that covers the varieties is The Shield Five Cent Series by Fletcher 1994. I don't own this book so I am unable to comment on what it shows or doesn't show. It is a rather expensive book.

Someone with a copy of Cherrypickers will be able to tell you if it contains all the varieties or just the popular ones. I haven't purchased this book and can't answer your question.

I do see that Mr. Spindel's wensite does provide a trial version of the Shield nickel Viewer. Maybe it's worth downloading it and seeing if it provides you what your after. http://www.shieldnickels.net/snv/snv.html

Sorry I'm not much help Ed.

@edweather: No Shield nickel reference book has *all* the varieties, as new varieties are discovered all the time. SNV software has *most* of the known varieties and new varieties are added all the time. Yes, the trial version is very limited. That's why it's called a trial version - to give you an idea of what the software does. Imagine the trial version populated with over 600 varieties to get a picture of the full version.

CPG has about 20% of the known varieties, concentrating on the more dramatic ones. Ed Fletcher's book is good, but OOP.
