I have this one, they are aluminum painted or plated onto a nickel core. Spectacular value for $1.

Interesting that they call it an "Austrian" custom calendar since it was evidently manufactured at Frankfurt am Main.

That makes sense. I knew I shouldn't tell a medal by its surface.

Wanted to add some more information for you as these medals are quite interesting. This is one minted under German occupation of Austria during Hitler's Reich.

The Austrians were "encouraged" to change the calendar medals to refer to dates of significance to Germans and with references to German landmarks & companies, and given to those same companies as worker's mementos and as not-so-subtle propaganda from the NSDAP.

Obverse on this one is the Römer - Frankfurt's city hall. Honoring Metallgst. A.G. - a pretty large (former) industrial company based in Frankfurt. Reverse has "The Sundays" - with the Zodiac above, and the moon personified as Luna, floating on a cloud.

The Sunday dates commemorated or referenced are:

14 March - (Reich) Heroes' Commemoration Day (Heldengedenktag)

20 April - Hitler's birthday (Geburtstag des Führers) and not a Sunday.

25 April - Easter (Ostern)

13 June - Pentecost / Whitsunday (Pfingsten)

10 October - Thanksgiving/Harvest Day (Erntedanktag) - Oktoberfest.

In addition to the Reich references, 1943 was also the year of Aktion Erntefest, in November, a tremendous war crime, so this calendar is likely offensive to a good many people; be careful to whom you are showing it.
