We found this in a roll of pennys and after a bit of research it seems they were stamped for a special event...Anyone know a bit more about these?

They were privately counterstamped, they are not an official item of any kind. As to what the special event was , July 20th 1969 was the date of the landing on the moon by Apollo 11. The first trip of men to the surface of the moon.

Seems like yesterday, July 20,1969 was my 16th B'Day, and 4 days earlier on July 16,th when Apollo 11 had taken off, it was my brothers 15th B'Day ( we are both the same age from July 16th to the 19th.)..

Nice counterstamp and definite keeper!

I've yet to come across anything like that in the years I've been picking pocket change and CRH. Got a fresh box of cents waiting for me...maybe this will be my lucky day!

No problem leaving this here. I just wanted to make sure you got to see some other examples of counterstamps.

There are at least two different counterstamps of this date. some have the date as July 20 on a 1969 cent as yours does. the one I got from my secret santa this year has the date as 7-20-69 with the same graphic. Mine is on a 1971 cent. they are cool and usually sell for a few bucks

counterstamps are always fun. Even more fun when found in change. Remember, they charged 50 cents, a dollar, $2.95, whatever for these things as novelties in some gift shop back in the day. Pulling them from the wild or CRH only costs a cent.
