I showed this coin to a fellow collector here in Montana. He gave it a grade of MS63PL...but said it had been badly cleaned due to some of the scratches going same direction on both sides. This coin was graded by the CCF as a MS63PL-MS64PL(another member owned at time), but there was no mention of it being cleaned at that time? https://goccf.com/t/205673#205673 What do you think? Was he right or just trying to set me up to try to buy it cheap off me.

PL coins often have die polish lines going in the same direction, the camera will often not pick up die polish lines. When I look at your photo, the coin looks like it slid across a hard surface to create the lines on the obverse going in the same direction.. I am not seeing an improper cleaning.

I don't think so; it would have a different character of patina if it had been cleaned. Radial mint lustre looks to be undisturbed. It certainly isn't a DMPL.

Coin isn't consistent with a cleaning especially the hairlines are minimal hence I think it also slid against another coin or something hard. It isn't cleaned.

Heavily polished or over-polished dies leave lines as such which are more noticeable on mirrored fields. As more and more coins are struck from that die pair, the lines fade away and the fields dull down.

Thanks guys!! This is one of my favorite coins in my collection. Very happy to own it. Gotta give a big thanks to Typecoin for selling it to me.
I didn't think it was cleaned...but didn't want to simply disregard the opinion of a long time collector either. Figured I would get second opinion.

It doesn't look cleaned IMO.
PL and DMPL Morgans tend to exaggerate the scratches that they may have. Their prooflike fields make even the smallest scratches visible.

Well, I guess I'll go against the grain again, as I seem to be controversial lately. I see what appear to be more than die polishing lines on the obverse, but am probably wrong. Maybe send it to ANACS and see what they say.

I sure hope not! It didn't look cleaned while I owned it.

It wasn't and hasn't been cleaned since I've had it. That is why it shocked me when he told me he thought it was.

Doesn't appear to be cleaned to me. A few hairlines, yes; but not anything consistent with being cleaned or even wiped.

Yeah, I didn't say cleaned, and just that it appeared to be more than die polishing lines. He might have been trying to get it cheap, and a quick shot to ANACS on one of their grading specials might help. But if you are keeping it, no worries anyway.

If TypeCoin says it's cool, it is.
