Relatively speaking, it may be cheap to where it may be 5-10+ years from now, who knows...but daggon on $1000+ hurts to layout....

I know what you mean... that was a great time to buy gold, and quite an interesting ride ever since.

Prices will revert to the mean eventually which should make the price around $800 an ounce. Since the price always bounces all around the mean average gold might be $400 an ounce again in a few years. If you look over a period of 40 years gold has been all over the place with two extreme spikes and years of little movement. To make money off gold or get great prices you have to be nimble. If the price of gold spikes then will be in awful economic state.

I paid $1407 last year for exactly the same coin in the same grade also in PCGS.
You thief!
I thought a little bit tougher date was a good price at that level. You were much smarter buying when you did.

I don't even want to mention how much I paid for the same exact coin, not professionally graded but probably the same grade, back in 2012. At the time, I was thinking that the cost of gold was going to keep going up and I wanted to buy one before it got even more expensive. D'OH...

I bought a bunch of silver @ $42/oz. It (and some of the yellow pretties) will be deeeeeep in the recesses of a certain floor safe for years I'm a thinkin'. PG

What's interesting to me is that, while the price of gold has certainly changed, the numismatic premium hasn't budged - it may even have gone down a bit in real dollars. Based on a gold price of $450/oz, you got about $435 worth of gold, so paid about $230 over spot. Right now, with gold at $1269/oz, APMEX will sell you an MS63 Saint for $1460, about $230 over spot.

I think you just have to collect the coins you like and forget about potential price increase or decreases. Nobody knows where the prices will go, but I bet if you have a few dozen gold coins put away one day you might make a nice profit or not. Maybe your great, grandchildren will make a buck.
