I'll lead off with AU-53, possibly 55.

Well thanks for the comments everyone :)

I was thinking it would go 50/53 all day long as far as grade wise but was curious as to what you guys thought!!
The coin looks original to me , as did the seller that I spoke to about the coin ...
It's a bit on the crusty side , so what are you seeing that's not original ?

That's not "crusty", its carbon spotting and carbon toning, sure signs of a cleaning settling in wrong over the course of time.

Its not been harshly cleaned but it has been cleaned nonetheless and the onset of the carbon spots and those darker areas dull the entire coin. As this coin continues to sit and age with time, unless encapsulated in an air tight holder that will stop the environmental process, it will continue to darken and degenerate to a damaged state.

Grade wise I think its EF Details.

You guys are confusioning me bad , so do I have a problem free AU barber or a carbon spotted problem coin ?
Honestly I think that isn't carbon spotting , just the color and tone of a old crusty coin ...
I have a few coins that are slabbed ( problem free ) that have that very same appearance of what I'm calling crusty ?
So idk

anything over EF45 in my book needs to display some type of luster peeking through. the pics displayed appear to show a dull surface similar to the what you get with a coin over dipped. residual solution not rinsed properly could over time display these dark blotchy areas. I think dsfreeworld got it.

My opinion is, it's one of those coins that is probably not worth the money that its grade should command.

Don't be confused. EF Details.

It certainly is carbon spotting and again, will worsen with time. Here is what a "crusty original" looks like that made a problem free EF. Note the uniformity of the crust over the entirety of the surface. Now look at your coin and notice the blotchy sporadic spotting and the inconsistency of it all. Your devices on the obverse are clear and bright while your mirrors have random dull and dark spots and the peripherals as well. Cleaned/Dipped and toned over.

Well Mr BS free world

I might not know much about carbon spots but I can grade a Barber dime ...

If this coin has been cleaned as you say then there's not going to be any luster , are they ?

So this is an AU coin problem free or not ....
I might need to spend a bit if time reading about carbon spotting but someone needs to work a bit on their grading skills since they know it all !
