I've just started noodling $100 notes so I can gain a complete year set before they're withdrawn, but I have no idea which serial numbers are valuable. Are there any particular letter/number combinations I need to look out for? Are there any books or websites that explain this?

You will mainly be looking for first and last prefixes.
In particular first and last prefixes from the 1990s. Some of them are quite valuable in even circulated condition.

prefixes are available here
http://banknotes.rba.gov.au/resourc...ial-numbers/

or you could buy a coin and banknote catalog (rennicks or McDonalds)which will also provide the prefixes.

Hi Hercules,

I posted a topic back in 2011 that may help you. Check out "Polymer First And Last Issue, Test Notes". It covers the $100 notes (and others) that I think are worth collecting.
Cheers

Any test notes would be great, but first or last prefixes would be awesome!

Sort of like this one that I got from a bank recently when getting cash for an overseas trip. Did I do a double-take when I first saw this? You bet!

That's the stuff of dreams! My biggest problem with noodling $100 notes is that it depletes my bank account very, very quickly, so I'm constantly having to wait until my next pay day to get another batch.

Many of the notes I did get have now been converted into $1 and $2 coins, but I'm unable to return them because I still haven't checked them for varieties and errors.

The only interesting find I have so far is a first prefix $50 note from 2006, but based on Maccas and Renniks, it isn't worth anything.
