I saw this 1964 Kennedy half on Amazon (link below), being sold as PCGS graded, PR 66+++ and could not believe my eyes! What am I missing? According to the listing there's "only one left!" There is, however, some good news to the Buyer who lays out nearly $1,000.00 - FREE SHIPPING!

Also, are there any recommendations for books that deal with Kennedy half dollars other than "A Guidebook of Franklin and Kennedy half dollars"? Your recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Jack

I didn't think there was a such thing as +++ lol a single plus is more believable but man that thing is ugly . I don't think they grade toning though they still just grade the strike. Still even if it was a proof coin at pr-66 it isn't worth even 1/8 of that price.

It's worth $275,just checked the cert # on PCGS site. The ad on Amazon reads only one plus sign not three.

If you are spending any time on Amazon searching for coins, you should really buy yourself a metal detector and get outside.

You have a much better chance of finding something decent in the ground than you do on Amazon for anything like a decent price.

The only other books I know of:

Treasure Hunting Franklin and Kennedy half dollar Doubled Dies by Wexler and Flynn

The Kennedy half dollar Book An Attribution & Pricing Guide by Wiles 1998

I don't own either of these so I'm unable to comment on content and usefulness. -MV

I guess I'm BUSTED! I must have a spastic index fingerrrrr. The point of the post was actually a comment on the Kennedy half that accompanied the Amazon listing. It looks more like a pocket piece, than a PR66+, to me. Jack

moxking - I wasn't browsing Amazon in hopes of finding a great coin. I was actually looking for books about the Kennedy half. You are correct, Amazon wouldn't be a likely place to find a new addition for my collection. I'd love to try detecting. I haven't convinced myself that I would use a detector enough, to warrant buying one.

MeadowviewCollector - Thanks for the references. I'm wondering why there aren't more books available for The Kennedy half series. I know Rick Tomaska wrote a book on the subject. I don't know if it's a good book or not. The Mega RedBook has a pretty good section on the series. I appreciate the help.

Tweak800 - If you're right, that explains a great deal. I hadn't heard that toning isn't factored into a coins grade. I certainly see the toning that you're talking about but, I also think I can see surface scratches. I'm only just starting to pay attention to JFK Halves, so I've got a long way to go. Having said that, I don't see this coin as being even MS in grade, let alone Proof.

All of you who noticed the extra two plus signs - thanksssss. Jack
