Good old honest circulation wear, and not monkeyed around with, as best I can tell. 1837 CBH - Reeded edge. Reverse is a bit more worn than the obverse. (Seller pics) Thoughts on a grade appreciated (& Overton number if so inclined!) There sure is a big difference between the obverse and reverse, a tough one to call, but I will venture an overall grade of G-6.

Very decent, but with that reverse, I just can't see it higher than AG-03.

One of the problems with this design was that there was not much of a protective rim to shield the reverse lettering from wear. The letters were also light and delicate. That's why the design was modified the following year. As for the coin in question the "wear level" is probably Good to Very Good, but with that reverse it's going to sell for About Good money. Check out this Mint State example to see what I mean rims and reverse lettering. If this one had reached circulation, the words "50 CENTS" might have disappeared pretty fast. Here is the 1838 reverse with the lettering "beefed up."

I just don't see this as better than AG. No evil cleaning or dings, though.

Paid AG or less money for it, so it's about in line with what I expected :)

I think it could make G-6.

Quote: Overton number if so inclined best match: GR-11 = JR-25 Rarity R-5 Crack ES OF AMERICA Die chip in M crack from M to lower neck of the Eagle lump near right wing. As for billjones : GR-23=JR-22 Rarity R-2 Crack from star 10 to rim Clash marks from chin N T flat on tops Reverse.

I think the obverse is a good VG08... but the reverse is probably on the G04 range... It might round out to a G06 depending on how much emphasis the TPG puts on the Reverse

The reverse rim wear will hold it to AG-3

I would love a coin like Billjones' but my nicest Bust half is a mere XF45. Thanks for the attribution :)

I see it as G04 based on the nice overall appearance and originality.

Looks like a nice G-06 to me...
...But then again I am making a model right (heinkel he-111) now so the glue fumes might be getting to me (lol)
