I recently read on here that when a PCGScoin is reholdered, they add a 0 to the beginning of the cert number. If that is true isn't it logical that a coin in s rattler should not have that 0?

I was browsing seller edgeweb on the bay and came across 1884 o in s rattler cert number 3003915. On PCGS it comes up with the added 0 but no picture or history. What should I make of this?

Well if it is still in the rattler slab it hasn't been reholdered. They probably added the 0 on the certificate look up in order to keep the number a standard length. No history just means it hasn't sold in a major auction. and no picture is because they slabbed the coin over 25 years ago but didn't start taking pictures of them until about 8 years ago.

It was quite the common thing, back in the day of the "rattler" for many dealers (and collectors) to try and get upgrades on coins that had big jumps from one grade to another. Just like a few still do today.

So it's entirely possible that a rattler was reholdered, although I have no idea how long they've been adding the 0.
