@echizento
technically I did find them but not in the ground
they where lying in a large box in a cellar, amung a few kilos of very very old coins.
if you ever read my introduction ,i have told my story there :)

thank you albert
but I could not find a exact match there ,but you did help me on the way
although I'm not shure its a exact match
closest I've come is this

double denier ND (1438)
Ag
SIT NOMEN DNI BENEDICTV
KAROLVS FRACORVM REX
Unknow-Hoard-Of-Medieval-Coins

this one looks more like it but then the iscription does not match
denier ND (1515-40)
Billon
TVRONVS CIVIS FRANCORVM
FRANCISCVS FRANCORV REX

hello spence,

sorry for the long wait ,I'm in euro so I had to turn in for the night
so I took some pics but I'm not shure if I could capture the thing that I said makes it billion like.

i'll first do it in words so you'll know where I'm comming from.
I've come across a few billion coin that where worn very much but in each case the alloy 'twinkling' while looking with a loupe.

now its that twinkling I wanted to capture
you just don't c that on plain copper coins.
maybe you know what I mean maybe not .
then, again I could be wrong so bare with me please :)

so here's the pictures

Ok thanks. I see what may be evidence of silver plating or wash remaining on these coins. I guess when I think of "billon", I think more of a debased silver coin. In any case, you have an interesting little hoard here.

no I need to thank you :)

but with all due respect ,i can almost say with surtentie that these coins do not have any silverwash on them.
its probably the oxidation spots you c,theres also black spots and some of the grey spots you c are realy green parts of oxidation.
what do I understand of billion, for me is that a alloy (usually copper or bronze) mixed with a small % of silver (usually under 40%)

Ok yes then we have the same definition. I wonder what percent silver these are. By color, I'm thinking vanishingly small (no where near 40%) but maybe others on the forum could weigh in. Of course, using XRF would let us know with certainty.

i finally found out what coins I was looking for.
so I was able to atribute it to the kingdom of france particulary the Dauphin county/region
and reigning king was Francis I

double denier ND (1515-40)
Billon
