Received this very nice PCGS MS-64 1888-O and can't VAM it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. It's obviously a near/very near high date; doubled ear variety. The really interesting attribute that is throwing me is the pair of vertical scratches originating in the hair and traversing downward through the temple area. They are outies and not innies, so the Mint did it! The reverse doesn't appear to line up with any obverse I can come up with. HELP! PG

The date position looks like it may be set high? VAM-14 maybe?(the listing says near date but more like far left of normal)

That's what I had come up with too Dave, but the rim Cud is not there (could be later die state) and the prominent die scratches were. Maybe a 14a?

I concur with Dave on this one - VAM 14. I noticed the date was high and looked to have a little bit of a reverse slant. After checking the slanted date varieties, I realized there were none listed with that orientation, so I moved on.. VAM-14 definitely has the proper date position, MM position, and I can even make out the die scratch coming from the hair onto the face when comparing to LFCPs on the V14 page. I am just a little lost though, what is this about VAM 14A? Didn't see that one in the listings..

14a as in a new die state for the V14... A bit of VAM humor.. PG
