It is my understanding that besides the well known 1861-O CSA issue with die break from bridge of nose to edge, there are also other varieties of this coin.

Is it possible to determine which variety this coin is?

Thank you for any help!

An update of the CSA varieties was published in the Gobrecht Journal. Without micrographs of certain areas of the coin to be 100% sure, your coin does not seem to match the CSA coins.

All 1861-O halves that are Confederate States of America issues have the die crack you mentioned. There are several varieties of regular issue halves from this date and I can't tell if yours has the bisected date and/or speared olive bud.

There's an educational PowerPoint on the LSCC website by Bill Bugert on 1861-O half dollars http://www.lsccweb.org/Education.shtml

Bugert's book titled A Register of Liberty Seated half dollar Varieties Volume IV: New Orleans Branch Mint 1853-O with arrows to 1861-O will be the best source of information and diagnostic pictures.

Thank you very much for your tips, and for pointing me toward that interesting site.
I downloaded the presentation on 1861 O Halves - many interesting facts, specially that the Union Issues are scarcer than the CSA struck coins.
Regarding my coin, certainly not a CSA issue, and probably not a Union issue either (can't see anything by the date). It is probably a State of Louisiana Issue, although I am not seeing any of the die cracks and die lines described by the author.

The bisected date and speared olive pieces were struck by the Confederacy as well.
