Hi,

I'm thinking of making a silicon mold of some large Roman and Byzantine bronzes and then duplicating a few coins with resin (for my son to play with). Before I proceed, I wanted to get advice from anyone about whether pressing the bronze coins into the silicon might have adverse affects. I doubt it, but figure it's best to check with others.

They're not 'valuable' coins, but I would prefer to keep them safe.

Thanks.

I'd be nervous about using silicone as it gives off acetic acid (hence the vineragy smell) as it cures. Have you considered plaster of paris as a safer alternative ?

Ah, yes, I was warned of the smell. I had not considered plaster of paris, but I'm certainly open to the idea.

I'm just looking for something that gives a semblance of the coins we look at together for him to have on his own.

Maybe save the silicon for plastic dinosaurs :-)
