I'm not sure what forum this even belongs in but it was in a group of ancients I received from a friend recently. Any help would be appreciated.

It looks ancient, but it's a lot more modern than it looks. 'Tis from Morocco - the six-point star is the giveaway. Pic #1 appears to say "1273" - that's the date, in Western numerals, but using the Islamic calendar. AH 1273 equates to AD 1856.

It's been cast, not struck like most coins are. The casting sprues at top and bottom are still attached.

That's a bronze Folus, isn't it?

Hard to say the denomination without knowing the size/weight. The 1 falus would be 3.5 grams, 18mm across (at the circular part). The 2 falus would be double the weight (7 grams) and 24mm diameter. Unfortunately, the mint name above the date is too indistinct for me to read.

I have one of those, a falus, the sticky-out bits on the end make it look all wrong...

Thanks for the info

Based on your numbers Sap this is a 1 falus. The mint name is worn off
