I've been spending a lot of time at the hospital lately and there's a framed collection of medals celebrating the achievements in surgical procedures, but there doesn't appear to be any mint marks or signatures on the obverses and, since it's framed, I can't view the reverse. Does anyone know of this set? I did a little Googling, but couldn't find it. There appear to be 37 medals, which is an odd number for a set, so I'm not sure if it's complete.

Found it!

This is a Franklin Mint product and issued by the Medical Heritage Society. The set's name is Medallic Tribute to Surgical History. http://www.franklin-mint-silver.com...-history.htm

Indeed it has 37 medals (the Percival Pott being the 37th).

From what I can tell, they were issued in an antiqued silver or gold-plated silver version.

Good job! I couldn't find it anywhere. I wonder if these are the gold plated silver versions. I sure would like to be able to hold one to see if they're marked. Quite a little collection.

Thanks

Interesting that it says 37 medals and shows a case with 36.

It's likely that the group planned the original set to have 36 medals and then sometime later decided to add the Percival Pott medal.

The MHS most likely didn't want to go through the headaches associated with having a new case made and distributed; instead, the extra medal was sent in its own individual case.
