Found this while roll hunting today. I think it is neat how part of metal that is peeled back is folded over and still attached.

It looks to me the obverse was damage before striking was done,maybe the coin striking machine did it putting the planchet in to be stuck?

Nice example FW. 44 is correct, it appears that the break was there prior to stamping as the letters in liberty seem to be complete and unaffected.
