Not sure if this is the right forum but I thought a thread on this topic would be useful since many members list and buy coins on ebay. Come May you will no longer be able to list coins in USD dollars ebay.ca. Listing directly on ebay.com has many impacts. Comments?

I always list in Canadian dollars on ebay.ca... zero impact for me... Canadian buyers appreciate it, and US buyers like the exchange rate...

Great as a buyer, won't get ripped off by paypal the 2.5% exchange fee.

I think if you predominantly sell Canadian coinage, the impact is minimal and makes sense. I list all my Canadian coinage in CDN but everything else is USD. If your market is mixed (for example world coins for which there is no interest in the Canadian market)and you want to retain USD because you also buy in USD or control your USD exchange, then it's a problem. One can list on ebay.com directly, however certain aspects of those listings become painful. I agree with the comment that this will serve the Canadian buyers better. It will also make it difficult if not impossible for Canadian sellers to list ICCS coins on ebay.com referencing a numerical grade anywhere within the listing (not just the header as ebay now scours for those within the listing body.

It's good news for Canadian buyers of coins from Canadian sellers.
Not so good news for Canadian sellers of all types of goods who send a lot of items to the USA.

That's great! I generally only buy in Cad dollars unless it's a really discounted price.

Fantastic! I have a question though....why would it inconvenience Cdn sellers to list in Cdn $ on ebay.ca, including ICCS particulars? Wouldn't potential international buyers still be able to view the listing on the ebay site relative to their own country and in their local currency.... in the same way we Cdns are able to buy from American sellers who list on ebay.com, as the listing automatically appears on ebay.ca if the seller records that the item can be shipped to Canada?

Simply put Canadian sellers wanted the US dollar advantage, but if you were gearing these coins toward US buyers you could list on ebay US, problem for Canadian buyers is two conversion fees by paypal and your credit card or bank card like another 5%. I can understand a US seller listing in their currency, but A Canadian listing in US$ just creates so much fees, unless it's a must have coin I just pass.

Will not affect us at all as we have been changing our business model gradually over the last few years to list very little on ebay.ca anyways as almost all better Canadian coins do better in the USA.There will still be no problem selling ICCS coins on ebay.com. Our business is currently well over 80 per cent export to the US anyways. A far bigger problem is the exorbitant shipping fees in Canada for tracked shipping. Since our ebay accounts are extremely important to us NOTHING gets sold or shipped without tracking. As an example this afternoon shipped 14 tracked US parcels for under 42 USD and 2 Canadian that cost 24 CAD. Quite frankly selling in Canada in Canadian dollars is a huge wasted effort, not profitable at all. Another far more important issue is the current political , economic, and fiscal climate in Canada. Quite frankly I just do not care to have much in the way of Canadian Dollar holdings. Much prefer US dollars, Swiss francs and lots of silver.

There are even bigger changes coming to ebay policy on selling Canadian coins on ebay.ca. An announcement should be coming soon. It has taken 10 years but it will benefit both sellers and buyers in Canada.

Glad to hear your persistence is paying off Mike...

Pacificoin, There is actually a big difference listing ICCS graded coins on ebay.ca in USD vs ebay.com. The Canadian site currently allows ICCS grade references in the template, header and description. It even has ICCS listed in the template pull-down. On ebay.com, you cannot have a reference to a numerical grade anywhere in the listing, even in the body of the listing (unless you try to slightly re-word it or hide it). To my surprise, that filter exists even for coins listed in non US coin categories.

Nickelsguy I just hope there was a focus group put together with some expertise to drive these changes. All too often its is not the case with ebay.

Coin hunter ....where there is a will there is a way. I have been researching the various blogs as to ebay and the change in policies as to listing in Canadian Dollars on ebay.ca. The spin is amazing. It is still better to sell on .com and in US . Even more so when that is 80 per cent of your revenue stream. Another option is to certify Canadian at ANACS. They seem to be more conservative than ICCS three letters anyways. That however is another story and thread. The cost is overall about 20 percent more in quantity.

Personally, I feel it is an overall positive move for ebay. Yes, it does suck for sellers in some regards, but from a buyers perspective(and probabuly ebay's business perspective), it's something that should have always been in place.

A lot of thought, time and effort went into the policy changes. The potential for further Canadian TPG companies was even considered. The reliance on PNG and the 'mericans will be a thing of the past on ebay.ca.
