1825 UK Maundy Penny (Size 11mm)

1835 Maundy Penny

These are slightly larger 1½d coins about 13mm in size

1834 1½d - first year of the type - mostly used in colonies but saw some UK usage too

1836 1½d - also a nice coin.

These were quite pricey as numbers minted were low (Mid 6 figures for the 1½d and just a few thousand for the Maundy pennies) and realtively high grade (gVF - EF) for close to 200 year old coins.

An idea of scale for these pieces.

Post-Your-Tiny-Coins!

The 1857 Maundy penny is the same size as the 2 above. The Dutch 5 cent coin from 1850 is around the same size as the 1½d's.

Another comparison for these coins is they are slightly smaller than a silver 3 cent coin. I don't have one but do have a 3 cent nickel.

I think this recent acquisition is now my smallest. It is a "kleine denarius" (small penny) of the city of Bethune in Flanders, that dates to the end of the 12th century.
At this time, most of Flanders was a fief of the King of France, and they tried to tie their coinage to the French royal currency. However, when the French denier became debased, Flanders decided to keep making their coins out of "good silver" and instead reduced the size so that the total silver content would match that of the French deniers. These little guys are 11 mm and about 0.45 g.

Ancient Greek silver
hemitetartemorions could be considered amongst the smallest of coins ever produced, at around 0.1 gram.

Much smaller are the tiny rectangular 1/4 Jawa of Nepal, at only a tenth of the weight (0.01 gram), of the above ancient Greek silver coin.
Numismata lists them, but doesn't show a picture.

You would probably be better off, negotiating with gold dust, which is much more available. (but not a coin).
