Canada-Coin-1966-Looks-Unusual-And-Would-Like-Some-Info-On-It.

I'm not a collector but might have just got the bug now. However I would really like to know more about this coin/ Canadian dollar. It's a silver coin or might be nickel, on the picture side the canoe and figures and sky is gold in colour. I've been told it might have been part of a set but would like to know more. I was given this as a child from my grand parents who used to travel to Canada a lot. Any info much appreciated. Many thanks for your time

Wonder, this is one of the best resources for all Canadian coins http://www.coinsandcanada.com/coins...ar-1953-1986

your pictures a re a bit small for me to determine small or large beads, however in regards to the gold toning, it could have been gold plated by someone at some point, and it has worn off. These coins were never issued with gold on them.

The 60s were the peak of Canada's coin collecting craze and silver dollars were consdered unique because they were not commonly circulated, likely owing to their chuckiness as opposed to a $1 banknote. The next year, in 1967, Canada's 100th birthday, was the last year that silver dollars were minted as a circulated coin. As the price of silver increased, it cost more than a dollar to produce.

Yours might have been part of a set like this, sold at the local post office:
350729996733

It appears to be large beads because in the small bead variety, the wider spaces between the small beads are quite noticeable, although for you obviously a very attractive and memorable keepsake.

It's so interesting thanks everyone. I thoughts I'd put a larger image up as the gold tone on the other photo didn't do it justice. It's a very pretty coin small beads or not. I love it and would like to know more about it so I will be doing some more research.

Keep posting your ideas and knowledge. Thanks

Looks like it's been polished and parts of the reverse have been gold plated, kinda neat
