So I went to the bank and asked if they had anything interesting and they handed me a bag of nickel dollars.

There was a bunch in the bag that just looked very different to the ones I usually get from the bank.

These don't look PL... so does that mean that these are specimen finish?

Anyone want to give a guess on the grade as well?

Side by side comparison... the one on the right even has a decent cartwheel lustre but pales in comparison to that of the one on the left for mirrored fields!

And some closer shots... sorry for the poor photos.... not exactly my strong suit!

Thank you in advance (and if this should go into the grading or varieties section would a mod please move it)

Looks like a specimen strike to me...

Thanks SPP... wasn't sure and wanted to confirm... I have never seen one of these in the ones that get turned into the banks...

Did these come in those pliofilm sheets... and did someone really just send 'em into the bank to get the face value? Such beautiful coins.

How do you establish a grade for these? If there's any signs of wear I can't see it.. I would imagine something like SP60 or greater..but that book you sent me doesn't talk about SP grades... how does one grade an SP coin?

Nope, in capsules either as cased single dollars (blue clamshell boxes) or in the Prestige double dollar set.

Yup, I see that all the time... they minted a ton of those...
