I have only seen this one proof, but was wondering is this is normal on the rim of all the proofs for the prz dollars? Also found a nice die crack on it.
There are two raised metal on the rim, they are exact opposits, I believe it is what they use to hold the metal while doing stamping, but they did not cut it right and left the metal on the rim?
I have seen these on all the proof dollars thus far. I believe the edge lettering is struck "in collar" for the proofs so they don't go through the Schuller edge machine. I don't know what they are , but I know I have seen them ! Maybe a 2 piece collar ? that could be the joint of the collar if it is 2 pieces.
The proofs are struck with a segmented collar which is what causes those marks and that is also why all of the lettering is unidirectional on the proof Prez dollars.
